Viterra works with local business to supply safety workwear

Viterra has contracted a local South Australian safety and workwear supplier, Torrens Safety, to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing to its workforce.

The contract is worth more than $700,000 annually in a boost to the local economy.

Tim Krause, General Manager Viterra, said with 800 ongoing employees and up to 2000 casual harvest employees needing PPE and workwear, the contract was an important one for Viterra.

“We went through a tender process and it is pleasing to have engaged a local South Australian company,” Tim said.

“We highly value our relationships with our suppliers as the service they provide is critical to the success of our business.”

One of the most important parts of the contract is supplying PPE and clothing to Viterra’s harvest casual workforce.

“Being able to provide these kits in a short timeframe is important to ensure harvest operations run smoothly.”

Shane Limbert, Torrens Safety Director, said his team was pleased to be awarded the contract.

“Torrens Safety is a proud family owned and operated business and new partnerships such as this one allow us to reinvest in our business and South Australia,” Shane said.

“We are looking forward to working closely with Viterra into the future.”

The contract between Viterra and Torrens Safety is for an initial period of 12 months with the option to extend it for three years after that.

Viterra has contracts with over 1500 suppliers, the vast majority of which are South Australian based.

Viterra and Glencore Agriculture contributed over $3.7 billion to the Australian economy in 2017. A significant portion of that has stayed in South Australia, particularly regional areas, through employment, continued investment in operations and the purchase of agricultural commodities from growers.
