Viterra continues to invest in training

Viterra is a major employer in regional South Australia and makes significant investments each year in training to upskill its employees, ensure a safe working environment, and provide a valuable, efficient, supply chain to grower and buyer customers.

Viterra’s training has a particular focus on safety, food quality and hygiene, customer service and leadership ensuring that the skill sets of its highly trained workforce is always evolving.

Viterra employs around 700 permanent staff with many of those living and working in regional South Australia.

The business is a significant contributor in the local communities in which it operates and its employees play a key role in its business.

Each employee that undertakes operational tasks has access to a personalised training plan which is reviewed annually to ensure they have all the skills necessary to complete their roles safely and to a high standard.

Consistency in training is a priority for Viterra to ensure a high level of service at each of its grower receival sites, and provide all employees across its regional locations with the same opportunities.

As well as internally based training programmes, more than 150 employees from all levels of the business have participated in a number of nationally accredited leadership and development training programmes in the last five years. These programmes, focused on professional and personal development, include Work, Health and Safety at a Certificate IV level, Developing Future Leaders – Certificate IV, and Strategic Leadership at a Diploma level.

In 2019, more than 20 site based employees completed Viterra’s Driving Effective Teams programme, designed to provide knowledge and practical tools for employees when working in groups.

To support the permanent workforce and help receive the season’s grain more than 1530 additional seasonal workers joined the business for the 2019/20 harvest.
