Storage and handling
Why growers and carriers chose the Viterra network |
Growers highlighted distance from farm to site and having access to multiple buyers as the top two reasons why they delivered to Viterra. We are focused on ensuring growers’ closest key delivery sites meet their needs during harvest. Some of the ways we do this is by working with growers to plan our segregations to match what’s being grown, and continuing to invest in our sites to provide an efficient and effective service. We invest where it provides the greatest value to our customers, ensuring we can meet the evolving needs of growers, buyers, the industry and local communities now and into the future. This supports our long-term focus of providing grain storage and handling services through the most efficient, cost effective and sustainable supply chain. Our competitive supply chain, world class port terminals and strong quality management processes support us in finding and maintaining buyers and market access for South Australian grain. With over 40 buyers who have purchased grain through our network so far this season, growers who deliver to Viterra have more choice when selling their grain. Even in a below average harvest, this number is consistent with average and above average seasons, demonstrating the domestic and international demand for the high-quality SA grain growers produced. Of the buyers in our network, 23 posted cash prices this season, allowing growers to sell their 2024/25 grain without needing to contact the buyer beforehand through warehouse to cash. This harvest, we also saw more domestic buyers than usual accessing our network and supporting SA growers by purchasing their grain. The opportunity to access upgrades through dynamic binning was also rated highly by growers as a reason they delivered to Viterra this harvest. Through dynamic binning upgrades of wheat, barley and canola, we have delivered around $66 million in value to growers since it was introduced in 2018/19. This harvest, we gave growers a greater opportunity for a dynamic binning upgrade for loads outside of malt receival standards, by increasing the Malt1 dynamic binning tolerances for retention, screenings and test weight. Because of this change, we upgraded an additional 11,000 tonnes of barley to Malt1. These changes to the Malt1 tolerances were for the 2024/25 harvest only to provide more opportunities for growers to upgrade in a below average season. |
Experience delivering to Viterra's sites |
A majority of growers and carriers rated segregations (84%), service from Viterra employees (88%), classification (88%) and communication about site information (84%) either excellent or very good. Ratings for segregations increased year on year. In November 2023, we provided an early indication of market demand for malt, lentil and field pea segregations to support growers’ seed retention and procurement. After releasing our draft segregation plan in April, we worked closely with growers in the lead up to harvest and made changes to our segregations based on expected receivals, including increasing lentil and genetically modified canola segregations across our network. Respondents also provided positive ratings for receival/elevation equipment capacity, with nearly 70% of growers and carriers rating it as excellent or very good. We invested $75 million in capital projects and maintenance in the lead up to the 2024/25 harvest. We invest where it provides the greatest value to our customers through creating efficiencies, improving reliability and ensuring the long-term sustainability of infrastructure. As part of this, we purchased new drive over hopper stackers and performed upgrades to our existing drive over hopper stacker fleet to increase the efficiency and reliability of our elevation capacity. Plant and infrastructure investments across our network prior to the 2024/25 harvest included: |

Central region |

Our investment in our supply chain supports efficient turnaround times, with ratings for turnaround times increasing year on year.
Turnaround times were also ranked among the top reasons growers and carriers chose to deliver to their main delivery site.
Opening hours were highlighted as an area for improvement at some sites.
We will continue to seek additional feedback from growers on opening hours to understand the survey responses at an individual site level.
Following positive feedback on our communications last year, In January, we provided an indication of market demand and our planned malt barley segregations for the 2025/26 harvest.
To continue to increase elevation capacity at our sites, supporting efficient turnaround times, we have plans to order new drive over hopper stackers, each with custom designed canola units rated up to 600 tonnes per hour. In addition, we will make significant upgrades to several existing drive over hopper stackers with new motors and hydraulics, increasing their elevation capacity and enhancing reliability.
We will also continue to invest in other plant and mobile equipment to improve the delivery experience, including upgrading elevator belts and buckets at several sites and purchasing new front end loaders.
We will review our process of updating and communicating opening hours, including ahead of weather events, to meet customer requirements while ensuring we maintain grain quality and keep everyone safe. During harvest, we encourage growers to contact their site manager or local grower relationship manager to provide feedback on upcoming opening hours.

Safety
Positive feedback from growers and carriers reflects our commitment to safety. Safety is our number one priority, and as part of this, we are focussed on ensuring everyone understands how they can keep themselves and others safe when attending our sites.
Through the survey, 95% of growers and carriers agree or strongly agree that Viterra provides them with adequate information about safety requirements at site.
At the start of harvest, we shared important information with growers and carriers on how they could assist us in ensuring a safe and successful harvest, including site safety requirements. We also shared reminders via SMS and app notification during harvest about topics including personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and heavy vehicle mass management responsibilities.
We will continue to share important safety information in the lead up to and during harvest to ensure everyone who visits our sites is aware of how they can keep themselves and others around them safe.
This includes keeping growers and carriers informed of any safety concerns they may want to address with their teams.
We will also continue to look at further strategies to reduce the risk of incidents and ensure a safe environment for our employees, visitors and the communities we operate in.

Online services
Ezigrain was our highest rated online service, with 77% of growers who used the service rating it excellent or very good.
Prior to harvest we made improvements to Ezigrain and how growers manage who can access their information, including new easy to remember and secure logins and the ability to give others access to their NGR in Ezigrain with permissions relevant to their role.
Some growers and carriers experienced performance issues when using the Viterra app this harvest, including when completing digital delivery advices, with respondents highlighting these services as areas for improvement.
Through app development this year, we are focused on fixing the performance issues some growers experienced when using the Viterra app. This includes resolving log in issues, preventing users being unexpectedly logged out and improving loading times throughout the app.
We are working on having a new version in place before the 2025/26 harvest with improved overall speed and usability.
We encourage any growers to contact 1800 018 205 with any additional feedback or for support.
