Viterra has been nominated as a finalist in the Large Employer of the Year Category for the 2019 South Australian Training Awards recognising excellence in employee training.
The South Australian Training Awards hosted by the Training and Skills Commission and supported by the Department for Industry and Skills recognises individuals and organisations for their contribution to skilling Australia.
Viterra HR Manager Alyson Gilbey says Viterra is very pleased to be recognised for the quality of training provided to employees and the positive benefits it creates for employees and the business.
Judging for the awards considers the quality of training provided to employees, business and employee achievements that can be attributed to training, integration of training into business planning, innovation and excellence in design and delivery of training, and commitment to equity in training.
“Viterra makes significant investments in leadership and development training to upskill our employees to excel in their careers, ensure a safe working environment and provide a valuable, efficient supply chain to our grower and buyer customers,” says Alyson.
“In the last five years, more than 150 employees from all levels of the business have participated in nationally accredited leadership and development training programmes.
“These programmes focus on professional and personal development and include Work, Health and Safety at a Certificate IV level, Developing Future Leaders – Certificate IV and Strategic Leadership at a Diploma level.
“Earlier this year, more than 20 site based employees began our Driving Effective Teams programme.
“The programme is designed to provide knowledge and practical tools for employees to be effective when working in groups and is delivered with a combination of theory and practical skills.”
Viterra is a significant contributor in the local communities in which it operates and recognises the key role that employees play in its business.
“We are a major employer in regional areas with around 700 permanent staff and around 1500 additional seasonal workers join the business during harvest to support our permanent workforce and help bring in the season’s grain,” says Alyson.
