Glencore Agriculture graduate programme

Each year, Glencore Agriculture offers graduates the opportunity to start their career in the grain industry through the company’s graduate programme.

The programme, which runs for 18 months, offers graduates an opportunity to work within multiple teams within the business such as logistics, shipping, finance, grower accumulation and trade services.

Glencore Agriculture HR Manager, Rachael Walker, said the programme is structured but flexible to suit both the graduates and business needs.

“Our graduates will usually do at least three rotations through different teams over the course of the 18 months, however, if they are particularly interested in a certain area, the programme is flexible enough to cater to that,” Rachael said.

“We may also put a graduate in an area where the business needs extra support at that time, which can be a great learning experience, while also assisting the business.”

Rachael said the programme, is one of only a small number of programmes currently in place in the grains industry.

“The majority of our graduates to date have been offered a full time position after completion, which makes it quite desirable,” Rachael said

“There is also the opportunity to work in our New Zealand business on a rotation, which the participants really enjoy.

“Although we don’t have specific mentors, graduates work closely with their line and senior managers, allowing a large amount of knowledge to be shared.

“This helps to ensure that when the programme is finished, the graduate and manager are confident they have the correct training and knowledge to continue on in a permanent role if one is available.

“Our graduates come from a variety of backgrounds and have studied different disciplines at university, however, an interest in agribusiness, grain commodity trading, logistics, shipping or finance is ideal,” Rachael said.

Applicants must enjoy working in a team, be flexible, organised and motivated. They must also have completed or be due to complete an undergraduate degree by the end of the academic year to apply.

Applications typically open in June or July each year.
