Viterra has recently renewed its sponsorship of South Australian rural health initiative, Fat Farmers.
Fat Farmers works with farmers and members of rural communities to engage in physical exercise, train together and form support networks to improve physical and mental health.
Viterra is pleased to support Fat Farmers as part of our support for regional communities where the majority of our employees, customers and suppliers live and work.
Fat Farmers first started in Maitland on the Yorke Peninsula ten years ago with a small group of farmers training together at their local gym. With advancements in agriculture technology, the initiative was first founded in recognition that farm work was not providing the same level of exercise for farmers to stay fit and healthy as it once did.
The initiative has since grown to 12 regional hubs across South Australia with more than 250 South Australian farmers, their families, friends and members of the community. Fat Farmers’ members train regularly together in local communities and gyms, participate in local fun runs, walks and bike rides, as well as raise money for suicide prevention. The group encourages the whole family to be involved with activities that suit all levels of physical fitness with a focus on ensuring members are enjoying themselves.
Viterra’s sponsorship will help contribute towards activities that Fat Farmers run and expand their service to reach more regional communities.
