Viterra’s continued focus on quality

Viterra has been certified with the new ISO 22000:2018 certification across its supply chain confirming the company continues to meet the highest international standards for food safety and quality management.

The consistently high standards that Viterra upholds play a critical role in maintaining market access for South Australia’s growers and its reputation of providing consistent and reliable grain. The food safety and quality management standards help build end use customers’ confidence in receiving grain to the quality and specifications they require. It also provides an increasingly important advantage in differentiating South Australian grain from growing competition overseas.

Viterra has been ISO 22000 certified for over 20 years, which means the business has continuously followed the standards outlined by the International Organization for Standardization to effectively manage food safety issues and quality requirements. Viterra’s ISO 22000:2018 certification is the highest certification of any grain supply chain in Australia.

The new 2018 certification standards includes greater accountability of process, monitoring and risk management for food safety and quality.

Viterra was audited to gain the new certification. As part of the assessment procedure auditors came during harvest to gain an accurate understanding of Viterra’s operations and processes. After site visits, interviews with employees and reviews of systems and documents, Viterra’s entire supply chain was confirmed to continue to meet the standards of the highest certification of any grain supply chain in Australia.

Viterra makes significant investments in its supply chain to ensure food safety and quality is upheld, last year opening a $3 million, state-of-the-art, purpose built laboratory, which closely follows the principles established by the ISO 22000:2018 certification.
