Glencore Agriculture employees out and about at industry events.

AGIC Australia

In July, a number of employees from Glencore Agriculture and Viterra attended the annual Australian Grains Industry Conference (AGIC) in Melbourne.

The conference is an opportunity for businesses in the grain industry to come together to share ideas and network.

At the conference, Glencore Agriculture HR Manager, Rachael Walker, participated in a panel discussion about tomorrow’s generation of industry professionals.

In particular, she spoke about Glencore Agriculture’s graduate programme and how it helps to attract and retain quality employees.

“It was great to be able to speak about our graduate programme at such an important industry event,” Rachael said.

“Overall it was an enjoyable and informative two days and it was finished off by a gala dinner where the team were able to catch up with peers from other companies.”

AGIC runs every year in Asia and Australia.

Glencore Agriculture and Viterra host grower meeting

In June, Glencore Agriculture and Viterra hosted a number of grower meetings across South Australia to provide an update on a number of current industry topics.

The meetings, which took place across three days at various locations gave insight on the latest issues in the industry leading into the coming harvest and featured tastings of Shochu, a Japanese spirit made from South Australian barley.

Guest speakers from the Grains Industry Market Access Forum (GIMAF), InterGrain and Japanese end users, Sanwa, presented at the meetings.

GIMAF’s Tony Russell provided insight on the China anti-dumping investigation and the importance of market access and maximum residue limits, and InterGrain’s Ashleigh Brooks and Joshua Reichstein informed growers about existing and upcoming barley varieties and market access for Imidazoline tolerant barley. Growers then enjoyed a presentation and tasting of Shochu from Sanwa.

Viterra Chief Operations Officer, James Murray, said the meetings were highly informative for growers, with attendees providing great feedback.

“One of the growers said it was the best grower meeting they had ever been to, and didn’t recognise the amount of work Viterra does with overseas customers and quality,” James said.

“It’s great to hear so much positive feedback from the growers as it makes the meetings worthwhile.”
