The Viterra Karoonda silo is the sixth silo in the Viterra network to be transformed with artwork, and was finished last month.

Painted by artist Heesco, the Karoonda silos feature iconic local Mallee elements and characters from the town, such as Whisky the kelpie and Diamond the sheep.

The Karoonda silo art project is unique as the painting is visible in daylight and in the evening, a permanent projection art show illuminates the site.

District Council of Karoonda East Murray Mayor, Caroline Phillips, said the silo artwork has attracted many visitors, especially thanks to the projection display.

“Locals and visitors have been astounded by the artwork,” Caroline said.

“It has been a great attraction to our town and having both the painting and projections means visitors can enjoy the artwork during the day or night.

“We are hopeful the projection display attracts visitors to stay overnight, creating revenue for the town’s economy.

“Another beneft of the projection is that the artwork will change often, so that people visiting again will always have something new to see.”
