In August, Illuminart’s Travelling Light show travelled across South Australia, visiting over 17 locations along the coastline and projecting onto seven Viterra silos along the way after the local communities nominated the sites.
Illuminart Artistic Director, Cindi Drennan, said the Travelling Light tour is the finale of a five-year long project called Port to Port which was made possible through funding by the Australia Council for the Arts.
“The creative stories depicting South Australia’s heritage were all about appreciating the beautiful and interesting places they were showcased,” Cindi said.
Viterra’s silos at Port Pirie, Booleroo Centre, Cowell, Elliston, Thevenard, Wallaroo and Quorn have all been projected on as part of the show.
The free, midwinter show brought big crowds out to enjoy bright and creative entertainment, combining history and humour into a single event during South Australia’s Living Arts Festival.
“These small communities would not usually get the opportunity to experience large scale architectural projection and would normally have to travel to the bigger cities to experience a similar show,” Cindi said.
“By the end of the project the light show will have travelled over 2000km across South Australia and stopped at 17 towns.”
“This is thanks to a specially equipped vehicle which we custom made for architectural projection and has meant we have been able to set up and deliver a show in one night and then move on to the next town.”
The shows have been very popular, despite the cold time of year and have drawn crowds of both locals and tourists.
