Harvest recruitment opening soon

Registrations of interest for Viterra’s harvest positions are open for people looking to work during South Australia and western Victoria’s grain harvest period.

Harvest jobs will be available from October through to January (length subject to site location and harvest), with training provided prior to October.

Viterra is a major contributor to the South Australian economy, with a permanent workforce of 700 people and an employer of around 1500 casual employees each year.

Viterra offers a range of roles at its regional sites, in a team based environment. Roles include general grain handling, bunker operations, weighbridge operations and grain classifying positions. Some supervisory roles are also available.

General grain handling duties make up most of Viterra’s harvest work. Employees perform a variety of tasks using site equipment and machinery in a safe manner, particularly to help unload grain trucks.

Bunker operations include many tasks around the grain bunkers, operating equipment to unload grain trucks, handling bunker ground covers and tarpaulins, and directing traffic.

A weighbridge operator weighs grain trucks when they arrive and again before the truck leaves the site, recording the data for each load. This role suits people with good communication, accuracy and computer data entry skills.

Grain classifiers assess characteristics of grain to determine the grade. Classifiers undertake specialist training and are assisted by a senior classifier. This role suits people who are hands-on and have an eye for detail, computer data entry skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Viterra provides opportunities for a range of different people from those looking to gain their first experience through to people that have led teams and can take a supervisory position in a diverse work environment. Backpackers and travellers that want seasonal work while travelling are also encouraged to apply. Workers who are flexible with their location can also have the opportunity to travel with the harvest and work at different sites.

All employees need to have a strong focus on workplace safety and will receive extensive training to ensure they have the skills to complete the role.

Applications will open in mid-July.
