COVID-19 testing option introduced for Victorian grain drivers

Viterra has introduced the option for Victorian drivers to have their government required COVID-19 tests at Loxton and Pinnaroo sites which commenced this week.

Viterra will also introduce testing at Frances and Wolseley if required once harvest commences in those areas.

The testing is available for Victorian drivers travelling across the border to deliver into a South Australian Viterra site, to help meet South Australian government requirements of being tested every seven days.

The testing has been well received with growers and carriers providing positive feedback on the initiative. Viterra continues to look for ways to adapt its business to provide grower customers with a valuable and efficient service. Providing testing is a significant investment for the business and supports Viterra’s overall focus of making it easy to do business and connecting growers with end use markets.

Viterra continues to closely monitor and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and takes its responsibility in maintaining the health and safety of its employees, grower customers, contractors, suppliers and broader communities very seriously.

The process of facilitating testing at Viterra sites follows direct engagement with SA Health and is in line with all government COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Viterra has contracted an external medical provider to facilitate this service and results are provided directly to the driver by SA Pathology.

Testing is available at Loxton on Mondays between 6.30am and 10.30am and Pinnaroo on Tuesday between 6.30am and 10.30am. Any changes to testing times will be updated on the Viterra website.

Testing commences 30 minutes prior to the site opening. Each test takes approximately 10 minutes with each testing station able to conduct 24 tests during an allocated session.

Viterra has also prepared a template for Victorian growers that are required to produce a letter to border control that outlines the reason for their travel. The letter can be completed for an individual or member of a farming business.

Viterra is working closely with the South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) to assist growers getting through the border crossing as quickly as possible, allowing them to deliver grain to our sites. Please visit the Viterra website for further information including how to provide feedback or concerns regarding the process.
