Viterra has donated $1000 to the Waterloo District War Memorial Association, on behalf of local Waterloo grain grower Robin Schwartz who nominated the association when he completed the company’s recent postharvest survey.
Robin was one of three winners to receive a $1000 donation for a community group of their choice.
Viterra Central region Operations Manager Jack Tansley says the annual survey is an important component of the business’ postharvest review to ensure growers’ needs are being met across its sites each harvest.
“We ask questions on our operations, services, communications, safety and online platforms. We then discuss the feedback we receive in more detail with our grower committees and identify any changes at a site level that need to be implemented for the next harvest,” Jack says.
“This year, we’ve received great feedback on our new warehouse to cash service, where growers highlighted that it makes it much easier to transfer grain to a cash price and adds value to their business.”
The survey is also a great opportunity to provide further support to regional communities where Viterra operates and the majority of its employees and customers live and work. Jack says the business is delighted to donate to the Waterloo District War Memorial Association and their volunteers who play an important role in the community.
Robin, who is also chairperson for the Waterloo District War Memorial Association, says they are responsible for representing the town directly to council and maintaining the hall for the local community.
“The money donated by Viterra will make a big difference following a tough year where we were unable to hold fundraising events due to the pandemic,” Robin says.
“The hall and its facilities such as the playground would be greatly missed if they weren’t available. It is our local community hub which is highly utilised and valued.
“We will consult with the committee and the town on where to best spend the donation, but it’ll most likely be used towards maintenance of the hall and its facilities.”
The Cummins and District War Memorial Swimming Pool and Port Lincoln’s Navigator College have also received $1,000 each from Viterra.
A summary of results of the postharvest survey will be released later this month on our website.
Preparations are underway for the 2021/22 harvest and Viterra remains busy meeting strong demand for South Australian grain, which is being outturned for domestic and international customers through its supply chains.
