Leading agriculture network Viterra has won Regional Business of the Year at the 2024 South Australian Premier’s Business and Export Awards presented in Adelaide on Friday 11 October.
Viterra was announced as the winner at a gala event at the Adelaide Convention Centre hosted by SA Business Chamber in collaboration with the State Government.
The prestigious Regional Business of the Year award celebrates the ingenuity and resilience of businesses thriving outside of metropolitan Adelaide, showcasing their pivotal role in regional growth and development.
Viterra Chief Executive Officer Australia/New Zealand, Philip Hughes said he was pleased to accept the award on behalf of the company and to recognise the contribution of Viterra’s employees and grower and buyer customers.
“I want to acknowledge our incredible team across South Australia who work hard to provide a high level of service to our grower and buyer customers,” Philip said.
“Many of our employees live and work in SA’s regional communities where our customers and business partners also live and work.
“We are proud of our contribution to regional South Australia through employment and career development, and contributing $1.2+ billion to the SA economy last season by purchasing grain from local growers and investing in our supply chain.”
Viterra also supports and gives back to regional communities through a range of sponsorships and initiatives, including partnering with the Adelaide Football Club on its Country connect programme and sponsoring various grower groups and events.
Philip says Viterra is focused on meeting the evolving needs of growers and the industry now and into the future.
“We are invested for the long term and have many exciting projects underway which will further future proof and strengthen our network to the benefit of our customers,” Philip said.
“Through our investment in our upcountry sites, port terminals and our logistics network we are focused on making the South Australian grain supply chain more efficient to compete with interstate and international origins of the Black Sea, Canada, US and South America and attract more buyers to purchase grain from the state.
“Finally, we’d like to thank our grower and buyer customers for their support of our business and their commitment to producing and purchasing the high quality product that South Australia is known for. Without them this award wouldn’t be possible,” he said.
Viterra thanks the award sponsor, ElectraNet, and congratulates the other finalists and category winners.
