Viterra Quality Services Manager, Edwina Cockburn recently completed Grain Trade Australia’s (GTA’s) inaugural Five Under 30 programme.
Edwina was one of five recipients selected for the 12 month leadership development programme, which aims to assist, guide and recognise future leaders in the grain industry while increasing participation of younger people in GTA. The Five under 30 group received additional opportunities and involvement in GTA activities, mentorship and guidance.
Edwina oversees Viterra’s Thebarton laboratory and grain classification across its network. The laboratory team ensure grain meets customer requirements by supporting and training our sites classification team, and conduct in-depth classification and technical testing including protein reference, chemical residue and DNA testing for genetically modified canola.
Edwina says the knowledge she gained through the Five under 30 programme will assist with processes and making decisions in her role at Viterra.
“My highlights of the programme included mentorship from GTA CEO Pat O’Shannassy, observing the GTA commerce committee and attending the Australian Grains Industry Conference (AGIC) where the Five under 30 group participated in a panel to discuss industry pathways and hosted a young professionals networking event,” Edwina says.
“I have gained a greater understanding of the industry and the activities that GTA conduct outside of the activities I undertake in my current role which includes reviewing the Visual Recognition Standards Guide to improve grain classification processes and standards.
“The programme has also provided me with greater visibility in the industry and allowed me to further expand my networks with peers and industry members who have a wealth of knowledge.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to drive a network of young people in, and positively contributing to, the grain industry.”
Viterra congratulates Edwina on her selection in and completion of the programme and looks forward to seeing her apply and expand on the knowledge gained throughout her career.
