Viterra and Crows team up to boost grassroots footy on Yorke Peninsula

Viterra is excited to bring footy fever to Bute in partnership with the Adelaide Crows after the success of its first Country connect football event in Lameroo.

Set for Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June, the upcoming event will see past and current Crows AFL and AFLW players, Tony Modra, Wayne Weidemann, Eloise Jones, Abbie Ballard and Riley Thilthorpe, descend on the Bute Football Club to support match day events and run a junior football clinic.

The players, with the help of Viterra employees, will assist with activities including running water, manning the canteen and providing coaching support, and participate in a Q&A session and raffle on Saturday evening.

150 Crows Country memberships will be available to registered attendees of Sunday’s clinic on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bute Football Club President, Josh Gill says they are excited and grateful to be among the first few clubs to partner up with the Crows and Viterra through the Country connect initiative.

“As the weekend approaches, we’re seeing excitement begin to grow not only within the Bute Football Club but across the entire association and wider community. It will be a great chance for junior players to learn from, and for the community to mingle with, some of their Crows heroes,” says Josh.

“The publicity surrounding the event is already having a positive impact, having brought new families and sponsors to our club. We are truly grateful for the opportunity and are very much looking forward to the weekend.”

Viterra General Manager Operations, Gavin Cavanagh says Viterra’s partnership with the Adelaide Crows is designed to add value to regional communities.

“As the Regional Partner of the Adelaide Crows, we are proud to bring this programme to country clubs across the Viterra network. It’s a great way for us to support the communities where we operate, and where our grower customers, employees, contractors and suppliers live and work,” says Gavin.

“We are very excited for the second Country connect event in Bute following the success of the first event at Lameroo in May, where we saw an excellent turn out with around 100 juniors getting a run with their Crows idols.”

Crows AFLW Player, Eloise Jones, who was among the current and past Crows players to support match day events and help run the clinics in Lameroo, said the weekend was a fantastic way to inspire the next generation.

“To come out to Lameroo for the weekend and get involved with the local club and community has been so rewarding. It was fantastic to see how much it meant to everyone and how excited the kids were to have us,” says Eloise.

“We receive great support from country SA, so it’s great to have this opportunity to give back to grassroots clubs.”

A third Country connect event is planned this year for Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June in Cleve and Rudall, with Viterra and the Adelaide Crows joining forces with the Eastern Eyre Ranges Football Club to bring a weekend of footy fun to the Eyre Peninsula.
