With harvest coming to a close, Viterra is preparing to transition to postharvest deliveries for growers with tonnes remaining on farm, with deliveries available by appointment at sites across the state.
From Monday 20 February, Viterra will receive grower’s grain into warehouse and through port direct under its postharvest deliveries procedure.
Under the postharvest deliveries procedure, growers are required to call ahead and book before delivering, providing information including their details and NGR, commodity and variety, carrier details and any chemicals applied to their grain. Booking details can be found on Viterra’s website.
Growers are also required to complete a postharvest delivery declaration form in addition to the delivery advice and declaration form for every load they deliver.
Viterra holds high standards of food safety and quality management which helps to ensure South Australian grain from the Viterra network continues to meet the standards and needs of end use customers and maintains local and international market access.
In line with Viterra’s food safety and quality management processes, the business will continue to conduct testing on grain received under the postharvest procedure.
This includes classifying all grower loads on delivery. If a segregation is not available for the specified grade for warehouse, growers can talk to a supervisor at site to discuss an alternative delivery option.
All wheat (except SFW1 and FED1 grades) and malt barley deliveries will be subject to falling number testing to ensure the quality has not deteriorated while in storage.
Viterra will also test all grain for chemical residue and keep samples of individual grower loads for traceability across all commodities.
If they wish, growers can continue to provide a sample for indicative classification and chemical residue testing prior to delivery. Any growers who require pre-delivery testing are asked to plan this prior to delivery as chemical results can take up to ten business days.
Growers can find information on which Viterra sites and grades are available and information on arranging a time to make a delivery, by contacting Viterra on 1800 018 205 or by visiting the Viterra website viterra.com.au.
