Silo art projects start the year strong

Viterra’s silo art initiative has seen its silos turned in to stunning, large-scale artworks that have delighted both locals and visitors to regional communities across South Australia.

Viterra provides in-kind support and works closely with local community groups and councils while providing its silos as canvases for artworks that can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Much of the artwork is located on operational sites, please ensure it is enjoyed from the designated viewing area, and follow all signage and employee instructions.

You can view Viterra’s full gallery of silo art at viterra.com.au.

Silo art nominated for street art awards

The mural painted on Viterra’s Bute silos in the mid north and the illuminated artwork on Viterra’s Quorn silos in the Flinders Ranges, have been recognised amongst the best street art in the country through the Australian Street Art Awards.

The Bute artwork by Scott Nagy and Krimsone has been announced as a finalist in the Best Mega Mural and Best Rural Art categories. The project was brought to life by the Barunga West Council in collaboration with the local Bute community.

The artwork, completed in April 2022, depicts a young woman, representing women in country areas, along with Bute’s historical railway station, local orchids, a Rainbow Bee-eater bird, a Blue Wren and a rooster recognising the local sporting club.

Opened in April 2020, the Quorn silos are decorated with illuminated artwork each night which plays a sequence of animated stories reflecting the region’s history. The Quorn silo light show has been created by illuminart in partnership with the Flinders Ranges Council.

The Constellation Stories in Light Trail by illuminart, which includes the Quorn and Karoonda silo art projects, has also been nominated in the Best Street Art Festival or Event category.

By night, the silos also have a permanent light projection display showcasing work from different South Australian artists. The project is managed and curated by the District Council of Karoonda East Murray.
