Quorn and Bute silo art win gold

Silo art was a winner at the 2023 Australian Street Art Awards last week with the artwork adorning Viterra’s Bute and Quorn silos both being awarded gold medals.

The Bute silo artwork won the gold medal in the Best Rural Art category, while the Quorn Silo Light Show won gold for the Best Mega Mural.

The Bute artwork by artists Scott Nagy and Krimsone, depicts a young woman, representing women in country areas, along with Bute’s historical railway station, local orchids, a Rainbow Bee-eater bird, a Blue Wren and a rooster as a nod to the local sporting club.

The project was brought to life by the Barunga West Council in collaboration with the local Bute community.

Opened in April 2020, the Quorn silos are decorated with stunning illuminated artwork each night which plays a sequence of animated stories reflecting the region’s history. The Quorn Silo Light Show has been created by illuminart in partnership with the Flinders Ranges Council.

Viterra congratulates the local communities for their involvement in making these silo art projects an award-winning success.

The Bute and Quorn silo art projects are two of twelve in Viterra’s network that have been decorated with artwork or light projections, with a number of the artworks being recognised with awards in recent years.

Viterra is proud to be involved in Australia’s growing silo art collection by supporting silo art initiatives in regional communities. The business provides in-kind support and works closely with local community groups and councils while providing its silos as canvases for artworks that can be enjoyed for many years to come.

With much of the artwork located on operational sites, Viterra asks visitors to ensure that they enjoy the artwork from the designated viewing areas, and follow all signage and instructions from Viterra employees.
