Since the first harvest delivery of barley (BAR1) made by Mambray Creek grower Ben Bussenschutt to Port Pirie in early October 2022, local growers have delivered over 8.4 million tonnes to Viterra sites.
It was a record-breaking December for the Viterra network, which saw over 5.2 million tonnes delivered in to Viterra sites, the most that the company has ever received in a single month.
December was also a big month for Viterra’s harvest shipping programme with 905,000 tonnes loaded on onto vessels, making it the company’s second largest month on record for shipping. Viterra’s Thevenard port broke a record of its own with 130,000 tonnes of grain loaded onto ships in December.
Viterra General Manager Operations, Gavin Cavanagh thanked Viterra’s grower customers and employees for their support over a bumper harvest period.
“These achievements are a real credit to our staff who have been managing large receival periods at our sites safely and efficiently while remaining committed to providing high levels of service to our valued grower customers.
“It’s also a fantastic effort by growers across South Australia who have worked very hard to harvest their crop quickly once the weather permitted.
“We are also focused on moving deliveries throughout our network and exporting growers’ grain to domestic and international markets to meet the demand for grain from our network.
“To date, we have loaded over 1.5 million tonnes onto vessels for the 2022/23 season.”
Though deliveries into some areas have started to slow, the majority of Viterra’s sites remain open. Viterra will work with its grower customers to provide delivery options as harvest nears its close. The business will also introduce postharvest delivery options for growers who want to deliver to warehouse.
Viterra is connecting buyers and growers through its port direct service where growers are able to deliver their grain straight to port for loading onto a buyer’s vessel.
