Viterra congratulates its grower customers, transport partners and employees as more than 4.8 million tonnes of grain has set sail from its six export terminals across the state since the start of the shipping season.
Viterra General Manager Operations Gavin Cavanagh says it’s fantastic and thanks employees, customers and carrier partners for working together to help achieve this milestone.
“It’s a tremendous effort by everyone involved to outturn this grain from our network and supply it to markets around the world,” Gavin says.
“More than 1.7 million tonnes of this has been grain grown on the Eyre Peninsula and exported from our Port Lincoln and Thevenard port terminals which has headed to 19 countries on behalf of nine exporters.”
With a total average production of 2.2 million tonnes on the Eyre Peninsula, and exports of 2.1 million tonnes from Viterra’s port terminals, the company is well prepared with 5.5 million tonnes of shipping capacity between its Port Lincoln and Thevenard terminals.
At Viterra’s Adelaide port terminals, more than two million tonnes has been loaded, with close to 1.4 million tonnes at Outer Harbor and more than 600,000 tonnes at Inner Harbour.
Viterra’s Port Giles and Wallaroo port terminals have also reached a one million tonne milestone between the two, with 650,000 tonnes at Port Giles and 450,000 tonnes at Wallaroo.
Wheat, barley, canola, faba beans and lentils have all been loaded across the port terminals. This includes a record export programme of canola. Around $500 million worth of the oilseed is being exported which follows a record canola crop where growers delivered around 480,000 tonnes during the 2021/22 harvest.
“Viterra has around 40 buyers in our network, and 13 of these are exporters sending grain globally,” Gavin says.
“It’s a great benefit for grower customers who deliver into Viterra as they have choice and flexibility when it comes to selling their grain.”
