Viterra hosts preharvest meeting with silo committee members and grower representatives

Silo committee members and grower representatives travelled from across South Australia and western Victoria to attend Viterra’s 2022/23 preharvest meeting last week.

Viterra General Manager Operations Gavin Cavanagh says the event was the first in person meeting since 2019.

“It was great to have everyone together again in person following two years of virtual meetings,” Gavin says.

“Our silo committee members and grower representatives play a key role in our business planning and provide feedback based on the needs of growers in their local areas.”

Over the two day event, attendees heard from Viterra employees who discussed key topics such as Viterra's operations and services, harvest recruitment, investments and logistics.

Panel sessions gave further insights into subjects such as customers and trends, sustainability, global markets and site operations.

A number of guest speakers also spoke during the event providing valuable updates for those in attendance.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven spoke about the State Government’s ambitions to work with industry as global leaders, their latest initiatives and the focus to work with and support agriculture and the grain industry to thrive.

Grain Producers South Australia Chair Adrian McCabe talked about GPSA’s work in the South Australian grain industry and how Viterra and GPSA can continue to work together to the advancement of our grower customers.

RaboBank RaboResearch General Manager Stefan Vogel gave an update on global markets, crop production and forecasts.

The meeting also offered regional sessions for growers to discuss plans for their local sites with operations managers.

Gavin says feedback on the event has been positive.

“We’ve received some great feedback from attendees on the meeting, people found it informative and a great networking experience.

“Viterra thanks the silo committee members, grower representatives, guest speakers and employees who attended for their valued input.

“We look forward to seeing and hearing from more growers at our regional preharvest meetings coming up.”
