Around 1500 seasonal jobs will be available to work the 2022/23 grain harvest across Viterra’s South Australian and western Victorian sites.

Viterra bolsters its workforce each year adding around 1500 roles to support Viterra’s permanent workforce of 700 ongoing employees to help get growers’ grain into storage quickly and efficiently during the harvest period.

Expressions of interest to join Viterra’s harvest workforce are available on the Viterra website. Job seekers who sign up will then be notified via SMS and email when applications open.

Harvest employees play an important role in servicing growers during their busiest time of year, as well as keeping sites running safely and efficiently.

The roles which are predominantly based at Viterra’s regional sites offer a great opportunity for job seekers who are looking for short term work. No previous experience is necessary, so anyone can apply. Full training is provided in a supportive team environment.

Harvest work may appeal to school and university leavers, people between jobs, retirees or those looking to travel around regional South Australia and earn some money at the same time.

Different types of hands on roles are available, mostly working outdoors and include bunker operators who unload grain from trucks and direct traffic, weighbridge operators who record the weight of trucks when they arrive and leave, and classifiers who assess the characteristics of grain as it is delivered to site.

There are also general grain handlers who carry out a range of tasks including operating site equipment that unloads grain from vehicles into storage, as well as roles which include leadership responsibilities.

Jobs are available from around October through to January depending on the season, with some opportunities to travel with the harvest working across different sites as well as staying on to work after harvest.
