Weekly harvest report

Week ending Sunday 8 October 2023 report

  2 - 8 October 2023 Total 2023/24 harvest**
Viterra total receivals* 7,712 tonnes 9,001 tonnes
Western region receivals 6,765 tonnes 7,982 tonnes
Central region receivals 833 tonnes 905 tonnes
Eastern region receivals 113 tonnes 113 tonnes

South Australian growers delivered over 7,700 tonnes into the Viterra network last week with total receivals sitting at 9,000 tonnes. The majority of tonnes delivered were to our Western region sites, with lentils making up the largest quantity of tonnes we received, followed by wheat and barley.

Eight sites received their first deliveries for the season, including Cummins, Arno Bay, Lock, Wudinna and Penong in the Western region.

Viterra Western region Operations Manager, Nick Pratt says we have invested in upgrades across our network, including Eyre Peninsula sites.

“We have invested in elevation capacity at multiple sites with new drive over hopper stackers and upgrades to existing machines,” Nick says.

“We have also upgraded our bunker storage at Cummins, including installing concrete walls, which have grain hygiene and fumigation benefits.

“With Cummins receiving its first delivery last week, it’ll be fantastic to see the newly upgraded bunkers filling with EP growers’ grain throughout harvest.”

In the Central region, Wallaroo and Gladstone received their first loads for the season.

Viterra Central region Operations Manager, Jack Tansley says these deliveries started the lentil and non-GM canola harvest for the region.

“It’s exciting to see the northern area lentil harvest commence with growers delivering to the new lentil segregation at Wallaroo,” Jack says.

“An additional drive over hopper stacker will provide added elevation capacity at Wallaroo for local lentil growers to support them through what is expected to be a good season.

“Our Gladstone site welcomed their first delivery on Thursday, a load of canola, marking the first delivery of non-GM canola for the Central region.”

A grower from the mid north delivered a load of new season field peas to Viterra’s Inner Harbour site on Wednesday, which was also the site’s first 2023/24 delivery.

Viterra Eastern region Operations Manager, Andrew Cannon says he is looking forward to harvest starting at upcountry sites in the region.

“After receiving the first loads of field peas into the Inner Harbour port, we’re now awaiting the first delivery of grain to our upcountry Eastern region sites,” Andrew says.

“Our team are ready to provide local growers with a high-quality, efficient service when they start harvesting.”

Ready for the 2023/24 harvest, Viterra has invested over $60 million on capital expenditure and maintenance across our network including new driver over hopper stackers, front end loaders and weighbridges and bunker upgrades. We focus our investments on where it provides the greatest value to our customers through creating efficiencies, improving reliability and ensuring the long-term sustainability of infrastructure.
