In a busy start to the New Year, both our Western and Central regions passed three million tonnes of 2022/23 season deliveries and total receivals into the Viterra network approached the eight million tonne mark last week.
During the week, growers delivered over one million tonnes to Viterra, with wheat making up the majority of receivals. This is significantly more compared to the same time last season, with a late start and big crop extending harvest into 2023 for many southern Australian growers.
Another three Viterra sites, Arno Bay, Port Lincoln and Crystal Brook, broke their season receival records, all previously set in the 2016/17 harvest. A total of nine Viterra sites have now had a record breaking season of grower deliveries.
Our Roseworthy site broke its daily receival record of 17,157 tonnes on Monday 2 January, set in the 2020/21 harvest. Viterra Wolseley also broke its daily record for a third time this season on Monday, after breaking it on two consecutive days on 29 and 30 December 2022.
Viterra General Manager Operations, Gavin Cavanagh says Viterra employees are doing a great job continuing to receive the large volumes.
“Our site employees are managing busy delivery days while outturning and maintaining the quality of the grain in our network,” Gavin says.
“While deliveries into some areas are starting to slow, most sites remain open, some are available via appointment to provide options for those still harvesting and a few have closed as the local growers’ season has finished.”
To ensure we have the right workforce to help us move the bumper crop to domestic and international markets on behalf of growers, we have opened up a number of permanent site based roles in our business.
Viterra General Manager Human Resources, Alyson Gilbey says the company is pleased to open applications for over 30 operator roles across our Western and Central region sites.
“Our operator roles are varied and rewarding. They play a key role in our business and are responsible for a variety of tasks including loading and unloading trucks, loading vessels, operating machinery, maintaining bunkers, sampling grain and quality control, pest management, general cleaning and grain hygiene duties,” Alyson says.
“We also have operations supervisor and assistant supervisor roles available for people who can lead our teams to safely and efficiently operate.
“While Viterra hopes many of these roles will be filled by the fantastic employees we have had working for us this season in harvest roles, we also encourage people who haven’t worked for us before to apply. Previous leadership, grain handling or commodity classification experience isn’t essential and we are really looking for the right people with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges to build their career with us.”
