Viterra total receivals* | 28,668 tonnes | 32,207 tonnes |
Western region receivals | 28,462 tonnes | 31,397 tonnes |
Central region receivals | 115 tonnes | 604 tonnes |
Eastern region receivals | 91 tonnes | 205 tonnes |
Last week growers delivered over 28,500 tonnes into the Viterra network. Sites in our Western region received a large proportion of the deliveries with the majority over the weekend due to the warmer weather.
Nine Viterra sites received their first loads of the season during the week, including Buckleboo, Cummins, Kimba, Port Lincoln, Rudall and Streaky Bay in our Western region and Bute, Roseworthy and Wallaroo in our Central region.
Deliveries included barley, canola, field peas and lentils and we received our first loads of wheat for the 2022/23 season at our Thevenard site.
As well as being their first load for the season, Kimba’s first delivery was also its first ever load of canola. We opened the segregation this harvest due to grower feedback and our planting survey results, which showed an increase in canola planted.
To give canola growers the opportunity for an immediate upgrade, Viterra has extended its dynamic binning service this harvest to include canola, alongside wheat and barley.
Since its introduction, dynamic binning has delivered around $25 million in value direct to growers with the potential to access a higher grade for loads that are just outside of receival standards.
Viterra General Manager Operations, Gavin Cavanagh says the introduction of canola dynamic binning is one of the ways Viterra will deliver value to growers this harvest.
“As deliveries begin to increase, our focus is to move deliverers through our sites safely and efficiently,” Gavin says.
“We recognise the slow start to harvest may put pressure on our grower customers to commence quickly when the weather permits. To support them, we will provide extended opening hours at our sites when they want to deliver.”
Viterra’s investments and planning during the year will also assist in increasing efficiencies during this busy period.
“We have invested in infrastructure and equipment to support faster turnaround times including new driver over hopper stackers and upgrades to existing units,” Gavin says.
“To meet growers’ needs with a bumper crop, we have also invested in additional storage across the Eyre Peninsula, Mallee and south east.”
These investments, along with our comprehensive planning and employee training, mean Viterra is ready to provide a safe and efficient service to our customers this harvest.
