Weekly harvest report

Week ending Sunday 3 November 2019 report

  28 October – 3 November 2019 Total 2019/20 harvest**
Viterra total receivals* 309,021 tonnes 424,911 tonnes
Western region receivals 159,427 tonnes 229,432 tonnes
Central region receivals 145,026 tonnes 190,253 tonnes
Eastern region receivals*** 4,568 tonnes 5,226 tonnes

More than 300,000 tonnes were received into our network in the past week, with barley remaining the frontrunner commodity, again comprising more than half of last week’s deliveries.

A further 19 sites welcomed their first receivals in the past week, boosting the number of sites that have received grain this harvest up to 49.

In response to last week’s weather, Viterra altered opening hours at sites in all regions to ensure growers could continue deliveries around weather conditions.

Viterra Central region Operations Manager Jack Tansley says the warmer weather brought a busy start to the week for growers in the region.

“We extended our opening hours at several of the Central region’s sites for growers to deliver earlier in the week and beat the forecasted showers,” Jack says.

“This included keeping our Gladstone, Crystal Brook and Snowtown sites open until 10pm for several nights, and further extending Snowtown’s opening hours until midnight one night last week.”

Viterra Western region Operations Manager Nick Pratt says Viterra’s ability to respond to growers’ changing needs by adjusting operations is made possible by the size of our network and our workforce.

“We manage extended opening hours by running double shifts for our employees, allowing us to continue to provide a flexible and efficient supply chain to our grower customers, while keeping safety as our number one priority,” Nick says.

“As well as extending opening hours across most sites in the region, Port Lincoln began receiving from beyond the local delivery zone for specific wheat and barley grades, in support of our busy upcoming shipping schedule.”
