Weekly harvest report

Week ending Sunday 29 January 2023 report

  23 - 29 January 2023 Total 2022/23 harvest**
Viterra total receivals* 110,738 tonnes 8,725,162 tonnes
Western region receivals 12,988 tonnes 3,266,811 tonnes
Central region receivals 70,404 tonnes 3,634,003 tonnes
Eastern region receivals 27,346 tonnes 1,824,348 tonnes

Growers delivered 110,000 tonnes to Viterra last week, with wheat remaining the major commodity. We received most grain into our Central region with growers delivering 70,000 tonnes.

While the bumper 2022/23 harvest is coming to a close, Viterra employees remain busy moving growers’ grain through our network to market.

Viterra General Manager Supply Chain, Derek Robjohns says we are continuing to outturn grain via truck and train to transport to port for shipping.

“We have moved in excess of 1.25 million tonnes of grain from our upcountry sites to port since the beginning of harvest,” Derek says.

“To move this grain during harvest is a mammoth job for our employees as well as our transport providers, who play a crucial role in our supply chain and helping us connect growers with end use customers.”

Derek says Viterra has loaded over 1.85 million tonnes of commodities onto vessels this harvest destined for international shores.

“We have loaded 46 vessels headed to 22 countries since our first shipment for the season, a vessel of wheat from our Thevenard terminal,” Derek says.

“Since then, we recorded our second largest month ever for shipping, where we loaded 905,000 tonnes onto vessels in December.

“Our harvest shipping puts us in a fantastic position to execute the remainder of our bumper programme, where a record 18 exporters forward booked a record seven million tonnes of shipping with Viterra for the season.”

Viterra’s busy shipping schedule reflects the strong demand for grain delivered to our network, which is supported by our continued focus on food and feed safety and quality management.

“Food and feed safety and quality management is integrated into all of our activities and operations to ensure we maintain market access for growers’ grain while upholding the strong reputation of South Australian grain from the Viterra network,” Derek says.

“This provides value for South Australian growers, who have increased competition for their grain and confidence when delivering grain to our network.”

Thank you for keeping up to date with this harvest at Viterra. This will be the last 2022/23 weekly harvest report. We will release our monthly receivals report commencing 7 March 2023.
