We received over 35,000 tonnes of grain into our network for the week ending 25 October, with barley making up the majority of receivals.
Harvest is now underway across all three regions, with our Loxton site in the Eastern region taking its first load last week.
A load of barley was delivered to the site on Thursday 22 October, as the region’s local growers start to get their headers out for the new harvesting season.
Viterra Eastern region Operations Manager Jo Klitscher says deliveries are expected to increase over the next few weeks and all sites are well prepared for when growers are ready to start delivering.
“We’re very focussed on providing the most valuable and efficient service to our grower customers and we do this by working closely with them in the lead up to harvest.
“I’ve attended several grower meetings in the past few weeks which are aimed at understanding growers’ needs at their local Viterra sites.
“We have planned our segregations across sites to maximise the elevation capacity based on what our grower customers plan to deliver, and we’ll continue to work with them throughout harvest to match opening hours to their deliveries.”
Harvest in the Western region picked up last week, as over 23,500 tonnes were received and four more sites welcomed their first deliveries.
We also unveiled $4 million in new infrastructure at our Cummins site on Friday to local growers and the community.
The new facilities include two modern classification centres, automatic grain probes and three fully automated weighbridges. The upgrade will improve safety and efficiency and provide local growers with an even higher level of service at the site. Read more.
In the Central region, deliveries into the mid north started to roll in as more sites took their first 2020/21 harvest receivals.
Our Roseworthy site saw its first delivery on Monday 19 October with a load of barley. Our Bowmans and Bute sites’ first deliveries followed on Wednesday.
Grower Joe Wilson of Whitwarta Pastoral delivered Bowman’s first load for the season of BAR1 barley, which he said he was pleased with given the seasonal conditions in the area.
Viterra Central region Operations Manager Jack Tansley says receivals were steady in the region with nearly 11,000 tonnes delivered into its sites.
“Our Port Pirie site extended opening hours to 11pm for a few days last week to give growers the opportunity to take advantage of the good weather before the rain came,” Jack says.
“Growers are again waiting for the weather to improve before activity commences.”
