Weekly harvest report

Week ending Sunday 20 October 2019 report

  13 October – 20 October 2019 Total 2019/20 harvest**
Viterra total receivals* 12,645 tonnes 14,447 tonnes
Western region receivals 7,501 tonnes 7,704 tonnes
Central region receivals 5,087 tonnes 6,686 tonnes
Eastern region receivals*** 57 tonnes 57 tonnes

In our second week of harvest, we received more than 12,600 tonnes of grain, bringing our total receivals up to over 14,400 tonnes.

Eight sites welcomed their first receivals last week – the vast majority of which were barley, with wheat, field peas and lentils comprising the remaining tonnage.

The Western region surpassed the Central region’s 5,100 tonnes, with 7,500 tonnes delivered last week. Viterra Western region Operations Manager, Nick Pratt said the last week had seen Buckleboo, Lock, Penong and Wudinna sites all receive their first loads.

“As well as receiving both wheat and barley we also took our first receival of PEAK at Lock after opening the segregation there for the first time this harvest,” Nick said.

“The new segregation was opened at Lock following grower feedback and a clear preference for it to be located at that site, and so far it has been well received.”

In the Central region, Crystal Brook, Snowtown and Two Wells all had their first deliveries for the 2019/20 harvest.

Viterra Central region Operations Manager, Jack Tansley said while the region’s harvest was commencing slowly, its Gladstone site has begun harvest with a major $4 million upgrade.

“On Friday 18 October, we were pleased to invite growers and the local community to Gladstone to unveil a new state-of-the-art classification centre, automatic grain probes, a fully automated 40 metre weighbridge and shed resealing,” Jack said.

“The new equipment will improve efficiency, safety and service to grower customers and has been a major project which we have managed in a way to use as many local and South Australian contractors as possible.

“The new classification centre will be named in memory of Michael Butterick and the other existing centre will honour Geoff Millard – two previous Strategic Silo Committee Chairs and local growers who played a valuable role in working with the business on behalf of growers in the community.”

While the Eastern region is yet to record its first receival, deliveries to our Inner Harbour site are included within the Eastern region’s figures in this report. The 57 tonnes received reflects the first loads delivered to the site this week.

In the past week, we have continued to efficiently service our buyer customers, loading an export vessel at Port Lincoln and a domestic bound train out of Snowtown.
