Receivals across the state are steadily increasing with more than 402,000 tonnes delivered into Viterra sites over the past week.
New season grain exports have also started at Viterra ports with one of the first shipments for 2016/17 being loaded by Glencore Grain last week.
About 20,000 tonnes of wheat was loaded onto the Gloria Island at Viterra’s Thevenard terminal, bound for Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest single importer by country of Australian bulk wheat, buying approximately four million tonnes annually.
Exporting grain is critical at this time of year to connect growers and international customers. Harvest shipping benefits growers as it keeps the supply chain moving and meets a peak demand period for enduse customers.
A reminder that Viterra has modified its receival process for barley to reflect growers’ use of glyphosate while still protecting South Australia’s market access.
Harvest in the Western region is in full swing with more than 306,000 tonnes of grain received over the past week. However deliveries slowed at the end of the week due to poor weather conditions.
Lentils have now started in the region, with Wharminda receiving some lentil deliveries last week.
Viterra’s Thevenard site broke its daily receival record three days in a row. A new daily record of more than 14,000 tonnes was reached on 11 November.
Harvest in the Central region remains steady with 88,000 tonnes of grain received into the system last week.
Receivals in the Eastern region have increased with Alawoona, Pinnaroo, Strathalbyn and Tailem Bend taking their first grain deliveries in the past week.
