Over the Christmas and New Year period (from 19 December to 1 January), Viterra sites received more than 1.4 million tonnes of grain into the system.

Viterra shipped more than 860,000 tonnes of grain through its six ports during the month of December, which is the second biggest shipping month on record.

Viterra’s Outer Harbor terminal also reached a milestone last week, shipping its 10 millionth tonne of grain since the terminal opened in 2009.

The vessel which tipped Outer Harbor over this milestone was the MV Antares, the largest vessel loaded at any Viterra port this season carrying over 70,000 tonnes of barley.

New bunkers are currently being constructed at Tailem Bend, Wolseley and Wallaroo, bringing the total amount of additional storage for the 2016/17 period to more than 900,000 tonnes. 

Harvest is nearing completion in the Western region with grain receivals slowing down over the past two weeks. Just under 220,000 tonnes of grain was delivered to Viterra sites during this period.

Tumby Bay broke its site season record on 21 December, receiving more than 359,000 tonnes for the season so far.

Port Lincoln broke its season record on 24 December, taking in over 328,000 tonnes of grain for the season.

The Port Lincoln terminal also shipped more than 350,000 tonnes of grain in December, breaking the alltime record for shipments from a port in a month.

Sites in Viterra’s Central region have received more than 3.09 million tonnes of grain so far this season.

About 828,000 tonnes was received over the past two weeks (from 19 December to 1 January).

On 22 December, Wallaroo (31,991 tonnes), Roseworthy (17,054 tonnes) and Saddleworth (7,103 tonnes) broke their daily receival records. Port Giles broke its daily record on 23 December with 19,899 tonnes.

Eastern region sites received more than 358,000 tonnes of grain from 19 December to 1 January.

A number of Eastern region sites broke their daily receival records in the last couple of weeks including Bordertown (2,537 tonnes), Tailem Bend (17,426 tonnes), Wolseley (7,735 tonnes) Coomandook (2,532 tonnes), Frances (3,456 tonnes) and Tintinara (1,010 tonnes).

Three sites in the region broke their season receival records in the past week. Murray Bridge broke its record on 23 December and has now taken in over 21,000 tonnes of grain. Pinnaroo broke its record on 24 December, taking in more than 115,500 tonnes for the season. Monarto South also broke its record on 27 December taking in nearly 13,000 tonnes of grain for the harvest period.
