Grain receivals into Viterra’s South Australian sites have slowed over the past month, with the total now at 9,098,043 tonnes.

Viterra undertook another huge month of exports during March with 849,000 tonnes shipped through its six ports. This was the company’s fourth-highest shipping month of all time and the largest ever March.

From December to March, 3.2 million tonnes of grain was shipped – the largest four months in a row on record.

The mammoth shipping program is critical to moving South Australia’s record crop before next harvest. Total shipping has now passed 3.6 million tonnes.

At individual ports, Outer Harbor achieved its second-largest month ever with 230,000 tonnes exported in March. Both Wallaroo and Thevenard had their highest March on record, with 120,000 tonnes and 69,000 tonnes of grain shipped respectively.

This season, Viterra has exported grain for 11 different exporters to 21 different countries in Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa.

While coordinating this large shipping schedule, Viterra undertakes strict quality and food safety processes to meet end-user specifications and protect market access.

These processes start when selecting stock and continue through all movements within the Viterra system. During vessel loading, Viterra continuously draws samples from the grain stream and conducts grain quality testing. This is in addition to inspections by the Department of Agriculture’s Authorised Officers. Prior to delivery over the ship’s rail, the grain has been tested a minimum of four times, often more.

Viterra’s strong commitment to quality and food safety is attractive to end-use customers and encourages them to come to South Australia to source their grain.
