Monthly receivals report

Monday 30 January to Sunday 5 March 2023 report

  30 January - 5 March 2023 Total 2022/23 harvest**
Viterra total receivals* 174,785 tonnes 8,899,957 tonnes
Western region receivals 36,129 tonnes 3,302,941 tonnes
Central region receivals 93,159 tonnes 3,727,170 tonnes
Eastern region receivals 45,497 tonnes 1,869,846 tonnes

Growers delivered 175,000 tonnes to Viterra over the last month, taking our total receivals to just shy of 8.9 million tonnes. Wheat accounted for approximately half of commodities, followed by lentils, barley and faba beans.

Deliveries were a combination of growers in late areas finishing their 2022/23 harvest, as well as grain stored on farm. Our postharvest delivery procedure came into effect on Monday 20 February, with a number of sites available for postharvest deliveries via appointment. More information about delivering grain postharvest to Viterra.

Our busy export schedule has continued, and in mid-February we passed the two millionth tonne of grain shipped from our network this season, with 52 vessels loaded destined for 22 countries.

We commenced our regional postharvest grower and employee meetings during the month, which will continue as we seek feedback on our harvest operations and services.

The meetings are a great opportunity to get together to discuss the harvest, and understand how we can continue to work with growers to meet their needs into the future.

Growers also had the opportunity to provide their feedback via Viterra’s postharvest survey, with the chance to win one of five $1000 donations to a community group of their choice.

We thank our grower and carrier customers for taking the time to provide their valuable feedback through our postharvest survey, allowing us to review what went well, as well as opportunities for improvement, to assist with our planning for future harvests.

Viterra and Aurizon lead push to reinstate Eyre Peninsula rail

Viterra has partnered with Australia’s largest rail freight operator Aurizon to submit a formal application for Federal Government funding for the upgrade and reopening of the Eyre Peninsula rail network between Port Lincoln and Cummins and Cummins to Wudinna and Kimba.

Viterra Australia Chief Operations Officer, James Murray says Viterra supports reinstating rail on the Eyre Peninsula to benefit local growers and communities and our export customers.

“Viterra operates an efficient and effective fully-integrated network on the Eyre Peninsula and is committed to a long term future in the region,” James says.

The proposed upgrades would create significant economic, social and environmental benefits, and is supported by Viterra and Aurizon’s long-term commitments to the rail network if reinstated.

Viterra hosts Premier and ministers at site

In late February, Viterra hosted the Premier of South Australia (SA), Peter Malinauskas at our Wallaroo terminal.

Also in attendance were Minister for Trade and Investment Nick Champion and Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven.

The visit provided the opportunity to explain how Viterra is moving the state’s record crop to domestic and international markets on behalf of SA growers, with a record number of exporters shipping grain from the Viterra network.
