Viterra releases planting survey results for 2022/23 harvest

The feedback provided through our planting survey helps us to refine segregations to meet growers needs at our sites. It also helps us to maintain market access and ensure grain meets the requirements of end use customers.

Planting survey results key findings

  • Malt barley varieties have shown the most change this year, Spartacus and Compass are down while Commodus and Maximus have increased. This has resulted in close to even planting percentages for all four varieties
  • Results show an increase in GM canola planting from 23% of total canola planted in 2021/22 survey to 31% for 2022/23
  • Overall plantings of wheat and canola are slightly up while barley and others are down
  • Overall plantings of lentils were also slightly down in the survey results, however, based on further grower feedback and favourable growing conditions we expect above average production this season

A full summary results can be found on our website

Based on the survey results and feedback from growers we have released our segregation plan to help growers plan their deliveries.

Viterra hosts preharvest meeting with silo committee members and grower representatives

Silo committee members and grower representatives travelled from across South Australia and western Victoria to attend our 2022/23 preharvest meeting last week.

Over the two day event, attendees heard from Viterra employees who discussed key topics such as Viterra's operations and services, harvest recruitment, investments and logistics.

Panel sessions gave further insights into subjects such as customers and trends, sustainability, global markets and site operations.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven, Grain Producers South Australia Chair Adrian McCabe, and RaboBank RaboResearch General Manager Stefan Vogel also spoke during the event providing valuable industry updates for those in attendance.

We finished our preharvest meeting by discussing site specific harvest operations for each region. This included feedback our committee members have received from other local growers.

We look forward to seeing and hearing from more growers at our regional preharvest meetings coming up.
