South Australia’s rural towns are set to welcome well-known and legendary Crows players this season, as part of leading agriculture network, Viterra teaming up with the Adelaide Football Club.
The Country connect partnership, now in its second year, will see country football clubs host three major weekend events, with past players including Tony Modra and Scott Welsh, along with current AFLW stars Eloise Jones, Chelsea Biddell and Brooke Tonon, supporting game days and passing on their skills at junior coaching clinics, with clinic attendees also receiving Country Crow Memberships.
Crows CEO, Tim Silvers says the Club was thrilled to partner with Viterra for another season to help boost local footy across the state.
“The Country connect initiative is a fantastic way to inspire the next generation and last year our partnership with Viterra saw hundreds of regionally-based children, and their communities, benefit from three key events,” Tim says.
“Continuing to build on our connection with country footy is important and this partnership gives us the opportunity to visit more rural and regional areas that are so passionate about the game.”
Viterra Chief Executive Officer ANZ, Philip Hughes says supporting country football is significant because it plays such a large role in the areas Viterra’s customers and employees live and work.
“Sport is crucial in helping keep our communities active and connected, whether you’re playing or watching from the sidelines. It can significantly boost mental health and wellbeing,” Philip says.
“We are proud to once again partner with the Adelaide Crows to deliver the Country connect programme and give back to the regional communities that are the backbone of South Australian football and agriculture.”
Mia Kennett is a huge Crows fan. The 13-year old plays for the Mundulla Football Club in the state’s South-East and says Adelaide defender Mitch Hinge is her favourite player.
“Mitch is really inspiring as he played for the Mundulla Tigers too and won heaps of junior premierships,” Mia says.
“I love footy, especially kicking goals and I can’t wait for the Crows to come to Mundulla this season so I can learn new things and meet more of the team.”
Mia recently visited Crows HQ with other country kids as part of the partnership and met Mitch and kicked the footy with other Crows stars, Isaac Cumming and Chelsea Biddell.
Viterra plays a significant role in regional South Australia as an employer and service provider, operating its network to connect SA growers and the high quality grain, oilseeds and pulses they grow to end users in Australia and internationally.
